Midtown Makeover Past Events

2011 Event

Wayne State University and Midtown Detroit, Inc., (formally University Cultural Center Association (UCCA)), partnered again for the annual Midtown Makeover on Saturday, May 14, 2011. More than 160 WSU and community volunteers joined together to revitalize and clean up the Midtown and New Center areas of Detroit including streets on and near the WSU campus. Clean-up locations included the north Cass area, Brush Park, the Art Center District, and Grand Blvd. in New Center. Approximately 640 volunteer hours were logged and more than 300 bags of trash were collected.

2010 Event

Wayne State University and the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) partnered again for the city’s annual Motor City Makeover on Saturday, May 15, 2010. More than 130 WSU and community volunteers joined together to revitalize and clean up the midtown area of Detroit including streets on and near the WSU campus. Approximately 520 volunteer hours were logged and 300 bags of trash were collected.

2008 Event

May is "Motor City Makeover" month, a major citywide clean up initiative. The City of Detroit’s Motor City Makeover Midtown VI took place on May 17, 2008. The Office of Community Affairs jointly sponsored the Midtown efforts with the UCCA. Along with other business partners such as Blimpie and the DeMattia Group, more than 300 Wayne State University Warriors and community members helped clean the areas surrounding campus. We collected more than 300 bags of trash and provided a total of 600 hours of volunteer credit for our volunteers.

2007 Event

The City of Detroit's Motor City Makeover Midtown V took place on May 12, 2007. This year, the Office of Community Affairs jointly sponsored the Midtown's efforts with the UCCA. Along with other business partners like Blimpie, DeMattia Group, Amsterdam Esspresso and the Art Center Town and Carriage Homes, over 100 students and community members helped clean the areas surrounding campus.

We collected over 200 bags of trash, 65 tires and provided a total of 360 hours of volunteer credit for our student volunteers. Volunteers came from the following on campus groups:

  • Registration
