Spirit of Community Awards
In partnership with the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost, the Division of Government and Community Affairs is proud to present the inaugural Wayne State University Spirit of Community Awards.
Wayne State encourages all faculty, staff and students to participate in meaningful, sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with our community. These awards will honor members of our university who best exemplify the spirit of Wayne State University’s deep commitment to community engagement.
Wayne State University is currently accepting nominations for the following:
Recognizes a full- or part-time student who demonstrates ongoing service to the community with dedication, integrity, humility, thoughtful leadership, compassion and a deep understanding of social justice.
Recognizes a full- or part-time staff member who demonstrates exceptional ongoing commitment to service with a nonprofit organization or to coordinating or sustaining projects that make a positive difference in the community.
Recognizes a full- or part-time faculty member who demonstrates outstanding ongoing achievement in academic service-learning through working in a mutually beneficial partnership with a community partner; developing creative, thoughtful, compassionate, and just student leaders; and/or engaging in exemplary community-based research.
Recognizes an innovative project by individuals or organizations/groups that respond to local, community-identified needs. Students, staff, faculty and alumni may all be included in nominations for this award.
All nominations are due by midnight Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Self-nominations are welcome.
Awardees in each category will be selected by a committee comprised of students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community. Awardees will be notified within two weeks of the nomination close date and will be announced publicly at the 2017 Spirit of Community Awards Celebration on Thursday, March 23.
